LEGISLATIVE TEAM ADDS WOMMACK
Tom Wommack takes the job of director of legal services for PAGE. Wommack, Ellen Coody, and Charlie Roberts became PAGE’s new lobbying team.

Tom Wommack's career in education, spanning from a high school math teacher and coach to the director of legal services and legislative liaison at PAGE, reflects his deep commitment to enhancing education in Georgia. Beginning his journey as a teacher at Vidalia High School in 1960, Tom advanced to roles such as superintendent and regional director for the Georgia Department of Education before joining PAGE in 1991. His tenure at PAGE was marked by significant legislative successes, including safeguarding the Teachers Retirement System and initiating the educator license plate bill. Under his influence, PAGE grew into a powerhouse of member support and educational advocacy, often coordinating with lawmakers to protect and promote educators' interests. Tom, revered for his strategic legislative efforts and dedication to PAGE's growth, aimed to leave a legacy of service and improvement, contributing to an organization that strongly supports educators and students.

PAGE FOUNDATION LAUNCHES GEORGIA ACADEMIC DECATHLON TO CELEBRATE SCHOLARLY EXCELLENCE
The PAGE Foundation started the Georgia Academic Decathlon, an academic competition for students in grades 9-12 tested in 10 academic areas as well as a speech, interview and essay competition, culminating with an oral super quiz in front of an audience.

PAGE HIRES TIM CALLAHAN AS FIRST MEMBERSHIP & PUBLIC RELATIONS/MARKETING PROFESSIONAL
Tim Callahan, a transformative leader at the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE), significantly enhanced the organization's membership and public relations strategies after joining the organization in 1993. With his extensive background in education-focused communications in Washington, D.C., Tim was instrumental in professionalizing PAGE’s approach to membership recruitment by shifting to full-time Membership Service Representatives (MSRs). This strategic move dramatically increased PAGE’s membership from 27,000 to 87,000. He also revolutionized PAGE’s media engagement, establishing the organization as a primary educational resource within the media landscape in Georgia. During his tenure, PAGE saw a tenfold increase in its budget and expanded its staff, solidifying its role as an influential educational advocate in Georgia. Tim’s years at PAGE are marked by significant growth and enhanced influence, leaving a legacy of innovation and expansion that reshaped the organization.

CHRISTMAS-TIME AT PAGE: BARBARA CHRISTMAS GOLDEN SUCCEEDS ACREE AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Barbara Golden was involved with the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) for almost three decades. Her journey with PAGE began early in her career when she sought an organization that truly advocated for educators. Over the years, she witnessed PAGE evolve from focusing primarily on providing liability insurance to becoming a comprehensive organization offering extensive professional development, advocacy, and support for educators throughout Georgia. Barbara served as president of PAGE from 1984-1985. Later, she was asked by PAGE Executive Director Jack Acree to take a year off work as a principal to serve as one of the first membership representatives to help build the organization’s membership. Barbara traveled the state speaking to educators about the benefits of PAGE.
PAGE becomes lead sponsor of State STAR program after the Georgia Chamber of Commerce successfully managed it for many years,

Jill Hay named the first PAGE staff attorney.

PAGE CELEBRATES 20th ANNIVERSARY
PAGE hosts its Founders Celebration Banquet in Macon on June 23, 1995, celebrating its 20th anniversary as part of the Annual Conference in Macon. PAGE paid special tribute to the men and women whose dedication and vision established an organization whose mission has stood the test of time.

GAYLE WOOTEN ARRIVES AT PAGE
Gayle Wooten's tenure with the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) starting in 1999 spans more than three decades, reflecting a journey from middle grades teacher to superintendent, and later as a pivotal member of PAGE’s staff. She believed in the organization's professionalism and advocacy. Promoted by Executive Director Barbara Christmas to oversee Human Resources, Gayle contributed to PAGE’s success through her vast network that helped her understand members’ needs. Gayle was instrumental during pivotal leadership transitions. Her career is marked by a deep commitment to enhancing professional support for educators, advocating for PAGE’s values, and celebrating its impact through initiatives like professional learning, scholarships, and academic programs.
